AS Tallink Group transported a total of 748 836 passengers in
March, which is an increase of 36 percent over the corresponding
period last year. Cargo Volumes increased by 19 percent and the
number of transported passenger cars by 17 percent.

This year, Tove Jansson's Moomin fairy-tale image has its 65th
anniversary. WWF, Moomin Characters and Bull Press together
with a number of other partners are collecting funds for a
number of Baltic Sea charity projects.

The German restaurant chain Vapiano has been expanding
heavily in Germany and internationally. Last year, sales increased
by just over 30 percent to 95 million Euros.
In the Baltic Sea region you can find Vapiano restaurants
in Germany, Sweden, Poland and Estonia.

The Finnish restaurant VAT rate will be reduced from 22 to 13
percent from July 1 this year and the Latvian hotel- accommodation
VAT has been reduced from 1st of May from 21 to 10
percent.

In competition with 47 cities in 27 countries, Helsinki has been
elected World Design Capital 2012 by the ICSID (International
Council of Societies of Industrial Design). Helsinki
become the world's third design capital after Turin (2008) and

This summer visitors of Turku/Finland can visit Kakola, the
prison where some of Finland most dangerous criminals have
been incarcerated. Turku Touring is organizing again these
popular tours for groups in the jail that closed in 2007. On
August 15 Turku Music Festival offers a unique opportunity to
inspect the prison's history during a concert with Florian

Finnair reports increased passenger figures for regular
traffic. The load factor increased in March by about 12 percent.
Yield for the January-March, however, was seven percent lower
than last year.

The year 2009 was one of the worst years in recent history for
Danish tourism. Number of nights fell by 3.5 million, which
means eight percent less compared to 2008. It is both Danish
and foreign visitors who have fallen, but in particular the foreign
total has decreased by ten per cent.

For the summer season the Latvian airline airBaltic will launch
seven new lines in Finland and between Estonia-Finland, this is
another step in the airline's expansion plans in the two
countries. The new routes are: Rovaniemi-Riga, Rovaniemi-
Tammerfors, Kuusamo-Riga, Kuusamo-Lappeenranta, Kuopio-
Lappeenranta,Tampere-Tallinn, Oulu-Tallinn, Tallinn-Tampere and
Tallinn-Oulu.
